Like Arts and Crafts Gardens, this book is also published to coincide with the V&A's exhibition, and is written by the Karen Livingstone, curator of the exhibition and one of the editors of International Arts and Crafts. She says:
Karen Livingstone examines the origins of the Arts and Crafts Movements, its international dimensions and some of its major figures. She looks at some of the major Arts and Crafts projects in a number of countries. One of these is the American Craftsman house designed by the influential Gustav Stickley, examples of which were published in his magazine, The Craftsman. These designs became so popular that the author quotes the figure of $10 million-worth of these homes had been built by 1915 at a time that they cost between $1000 to $2000 - certainly this illustrates the influence on American society of Arts and Crafts. This is only one of the examples cited in this beautifully illustrated book which gives a fresh insight into the Arts and Crafts Movement and its continuing influence. Quick Facts
