Vivienne Westwood
by Claire Wilcox

Buy Vivienne Westwood from Amazon.co.uk or from Amazon.com.

Vivienne WestwoodVivienne Westwood has been one of the most influential fashion designers of the last 30 years.

This new book has been published to complement the Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum's major exhibtion which runs from 1st April to 11th July 2004.

The author, Claire Wilcox, opens the book with a discussion of Westwood's career from its beginning. She chronicles the innovations that the designer brought to clothes and there are plenty of quotations from Vivienne Westwood. Talking about introducing the mini-crinoline she says,

"For the last ten years clothes have had shoulder-pads and tight hips — that's supposed to be the sexy look ...but I think people want a more feminine fitting.... These dresses give you balletic posture and are very, very elegant."

This is one of the most interesting parts of the text, reading what was in Westwood's mind when she designed some of her most original and trend setting clothes.

The main part of the book is devoted to full page colour plates of the clothes, some beautiful or elegant some downright startling. Laid out in chronological order and, seeing the changes over the years, is particularly fascinating.

This book is an absolute essential for anybody who loves fashion and design. Beautifully and comprehensively illustrated, it will soon become a fast favourite.
