Authentic
Art Deco Interiors
from the 1925 Paris Exhibitions
by Maurice Dufrene
Art
Deco is probably the most popular and influential of 20th century
styles. Its innovative designers produced some of the most striking
and most copied images of the age.
It took its name from the Exposition
Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes,
an exhibition held in Paris in 1925 where the great designers
of the time exhibited their ground breaking work.
Luckily for us, a photographic
record of the revolutionary 1925 Paris Exhibition was made. Originally
published in a three volume set in 1926, Antique Collectors Club
republished the photographs and commentary in 1989 in a single
volume called Authentic Art Deco Interiors from the 1925 Paris
Exhibition, now reprinted and easily available.

Art Deco Interiors by Maurice Dufrene from Amazon.co.uk

This is a fabulous book for anybody
interested in Art Deco. You can see how it all began. The black
and white pictures show the distinctive elements of Art Decosimple,
elegant, geometric shapes, Egyptian influence, exotic materials
like sharkskin, lacquer, ivory. There are pictures of rooms designed
by some of the legendary figures of Art Deco like Jacques-Emile
Ruhlmann and Süe et Mare.
The book is not only a hymn to
those great designers, it reminds of us of what we have lost.
All those beautiful Art Deco objects that just haven't survived
the turbulent years of the 20th century and the period when, amazingly,
Art Deco went out of fashion.
If you love Art Deco, don't miss
