Miller's
Exploring Antiques in Britain
by Carol Fisher
Immodestly,
here is a plug for my own book!
Called
Miller's Exploring Antiques in Britain (available
from Amazon.co.uk),
it is a guide to the best areas in Britain for buying antiques
and collectables. The book encourages you to get out and explore
the British countryside, cities and towns and enjoy their places
of interest, historical sites and antiques treasures.
There are 25 different routes
in the book, aimed at providing the most interesting and fulfilling
antiques hunting. The book starts in Kent, the Garden of England,
and towns and cities on the route include Canterbury, Dover,
Westerham and tiny Sandgate, which has the most intense concentration
of antiques shops in the county. Other routes include stops
in the Potteries of Staffordshire, book-lovers' paradise, Hay-on-Wye,
the beautiful Cotswolds villages and Glasgow, renowned for its
connection with Charles Rennie Mackintosh as well as for the
titles of European City of Culture in 1990 and the UK City of
Architecture and Design in 1999.

places to buy antiques? If you do, share them with us on the

Info About Art and Antiques Forum.
There are six routes devoted
to the London busy antiques scene and include Portobello Road,
Camden Passage, Belgravia and Mayfair.
The book visits 200 villages,
towns and cities in England, Wales and Scotland. It lists over
2500 shops, auction houses and antiques centres as well as including
information on some of the country's most notable fairs (shows).
This is complemented by tourist material presenting places of
interest such as stately homes like Longleat and Woburn Abbey,
museums, country parks and historical sites that allow the visitor
to really enjoy each area. Historical data and anecdotes provide
stimulating background information, while route maps, internet
sources and road direction help with advance planning and timing.
Whether you are buying for business
or just browsing for pleasure, Miller's
Exploring Antiques in Britain is the ideal companion
for anyone hot on the antiques trail.
