Written by Vinny Lee,
interiors editor of The Times newspapers supplement, Innovative
Interiors gives an insight into the homes created by forty
different people, many of them fashionable designers.
It covers many different
styles from austere minimalism to artful and opulent clutter and,
on the way, visits homes in many different parts of the world.
The author argues
that our home should be a personal thing, reflecting our own personality
and needs. It should be a place where we can relax and throw off
the cares of our outside lives. Furthermore, the way we furnish
and decorate our homes should reflect our own solutions to problems
that arise in in the way we live our lives.
Each home is lavishly illustrated
and is described in detail. These homes include:
an oasthouse in Kent (UK)
a once derelict 12th century
chapel in the south of France
part of a former ink factory
in London
a converted warehouse
a Long Island fishing cottage
a two level apartment on Fifth
Avenue
Although you may not have the money
or time to recreate these homes, that is not the idea. The pictures
and descriptions can give you ideas for solutions to your own
interior problems or perhaps suggest ways of reflecting your own
personality in your home.
