The
Antique
Collectors Club is famous for its authorititive books on all
aspects of antiques. Even after they are long out of print, many
of them are still much sought after because of the quality of
information they contain.
This book, Spode
Transfer Printed Ware 1784-1833, is no exception. It was
first published in 1983, and this new edition has been extensively
enlarged and revised. In it you can find listings and illustrations
of every known transfer print issued by the Spode family at their
Works in Stoke-on-Trent.
Since the book was
published in 1983, more than 100 additional prints have been discovered
and are included in the new edition. Over 350 further illustrations
are included, covering the shapes of the ware found decorated
with printed designs, Spode marks found on the ware and the methods
of manufacture used in the past and those practised today.
There are an astounding
900 illustrations, many of which are in colour, particularly the
blue and white printed ware. There is more to this book than lists
and pictures though. The information on the history of Spode,
its engraving techniques, manufacturing methods and printing makes
this the definitive reference book on Spode and indispensable
for any collector or dealer.
