1921-26 - He went to Academy
of Fine Arts in Madrid.
1929 - Dali left Spain to
go to Paris where he joined the Surrealists. Here he collaborated
with Luis Buñuel on the films Un Chien Andalou and
L'Âge d'Or.
1930s - Dalí developed
paranoia-criticism which he explained thus, "....irrational
understanding based on the interpretive-critical association of
delirious phenomena." It was based on the way that obsessions
caused by some types of mental illness can bring together different
and unrelated objects. Examples of paintings from this period
include The Persistence of Memory (1931),Surrealist
Objects and Gauges of Instantaneous Memory (1932).
During this period the Surrealists had become increasingly antagonised
by his right wing views and his support for Hitler. The Surrealists
finally rejected him in 1939, after he publicly supported Franco
in Spain.
1939-1948 - Dalí
lived in the United States where his deliberately eccentric persona
attracted a great deal of publicity.
1949-1989 - Dalí
returned to Spain where he continued to paint. His eccentricity
made him one of the best known painters in the world and he continued
to court publicity with outrageous statements.
1989 - January
23rd, Dali dies.
